Description
Abu Dhabi’s naval force was founded in 1967 on the orders of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al Nahyan, Ruler of Abu Dhabi. He foresaw the ending of the treaties with Britain which had provided external defence for his and the other Emirates for over 150 years.
In 1968, Britain announced it was going to withdraw its protection of the Emirates by 1971. By the time this occurred, Abu Dhabi’s naval force had become a functioning, modern military capable of patrolling and protecting the waters of the Emirates. In 1976 when the military forces of the Emirates were unified, Abu Dhabi’s naval force became the UAE Navy.
This book tells the story of how this naval force grew from nothing to become a credible force in just one decade.
